A PC, a NMT and if necessary external (e.g., USB) hard disk, or a Networkshare (NFS, SMB) on a PC or NAS are needed! The NMT must have access to the storage media (internal or external) on which media files, for example films, can be saved. If no Apache web server is available you need an internal storage medium and a running MyiHome-service to view UMC!

Device setup:

Here we demonstrate the handling with drives which are used/needed to scan with UMC.

Example with a share on a NAS or PC:

How you make share on a NAS (Network Attached Storage), should be taken from the product description of your NAS!! How to make a share on your PC depends on the used operating system and isn't explained here. In this example we assume from the fact that on your NAS or PC with the IP address 192.168.0.1 a share with "media" already exists.

This network share should be mapped to a drive:

Netzlaufwerk verbinden

For this example a folder named "Filme" was put in this share, this will be where all movies are stored!

Ordner

Mount a share from NMT:

The mounting of a share on the NMT does not take place in the network neighbourhood! A share must be created in the Network Share option, and should have the same name as the share you created- look "Example with a share on a NAS or PC".
IMPORTANT: The „share-name“ is needed for editing the „umc-config.xml“:

Freigabe Popi

For NFS take --> address: nfs://192.168.0.1:/Media (depends on the NAS, NAS - take note of the colon!). You can use the search to find NFS shares in your network – NFS-Server, here you can see the network path - the same is valid of course also for SMB! You can decide which of the both share types (Samba or NFS) you want to use. Samba is a bit saver, NFS a bit faster!

Example with an internal harddisk:

If you are using an internal hard disk that the movies are stored on and should be played from, then a network drive must be connected like below Example with a share on a NAS or PC! On you PC map the popcorn hour's internal drive (Default is „\\IP-Adress of the NMT\share“).
The standard share in the Popcorn Hour is "share" and should look like this:
Datei:NWzuPoppi.jpg

Example with a USB harddisk:

Connect the external harddisk to the PC and take attention of the assigned drive-letter. e.g. „U:\“, but have NOT. (This you can change if you want or you can adjust the paths!)
It should look like this:

Ordner

We will discuss connecting the USB Hard Disk to the Popcorn Hour later in this article (first we want to scan)!

Required Software:

Install Java. If you use Vista x64 don't forget to insert "Java-path" in your environment variables: And under: Control Panel - System and maintenance (for those who are not the classical view!) - System - Advanced System Settings - Environment Variables - under system variables, the value of the variable path to the entry of the Java Home Directory expand! eg "C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Java \ jre6 \ bin"

Systemvariable

Install UTF-8 capable editor e.g: Notepad++. The Notepad integrated in Windows also work, but isn't very powerful and you have to remember that when you save the file that you have to choose „Save As“ and change „file-type“ to „UTF-8“.

Directorystructure and filenames:

To get the best scan results if you should use the following recommended structure:

Structure for movies

„u:\movies\movie-name\movie-name - production year – resolution – rating - ….iso“
e.g. „u:\Filme\Pulp Fiction\Pulp Fiction - 1994 - 720p - FSK18.iso“

Structure for universal movie-groups (UG)

Attention: In this version no subdirs in group-directories are supported!
„u:\movies\movie-group\movie-name\movie-name - production year – resolution – rating - ….iso“

Or with VIDEO_TS
„u:\movies\movie-group\movie-name\movie-name - production year – resolution – rating - ….iso“
e.g. „u:\movies\Herr der Ringe\Die Gefährten\VIDEO_TS“
„u:\movies\Herr der Ringe\Die zwei Türme\VIDEO_TS“
„u:\movies\Herr der Ringe\Die Rückkehr des Königs\VIDEO_TS“

Structure for multi-part movies (MG)

„u:\movies\movie-name\movie-name – production year – multipartpattern – resolution – rating - ….avi“
e.g. „u:\movies\Pulp Fiction\Pulp Fiction - 1994 – CD1.avi“
„u:\movies\Pulp Fiction\Pulp Fiction - 1994 – CD2.avi“

Structure for series

„u:\series\series-name\season\series-name – series-pattern – production year – resolution – rating - ….avi“
e.g. „u:\series\Lost\season1\Lost – S01E01 – 2004 – 1080i – FSK16.avi“
„u:\series\Lost\season1\Lost – S01E02 – 2004 – 1080i – FSK16.avi“
