Start the "scanner":

Go to the UMC-directory and start UMC.exe (Windows) rather „run_console.sh“ (Unix)!
ATTENTION: If you start using al new version of UMC you have to empty the folder of the „frontend“!!!
Datei:Projekt_Scanvorgang1.jpg

Read „Troubleshooting“ if you get error-messages or a program abort!
If all work correct, UMC will show this screen for some minutes or sometimes hours. Depending on your computer hardware, the size of your movie archive and your internet connection!
Therefore don't cancel the scan.

Scan order of directories and online search:

Let us assume there are a Scan-directory (user-defined), a spezcial cover-directory (also user-defined) and a directory with scan-type "7" (user-defined; all files are scanned within besides movies - scanned „movie.xml“ and pictures).
In the directories are scanned only files with the defined file extensions (for movies and pictures).
You can also use a "ignore pattern" (sample: SAMPLE|INFO; default is EMPTY). If you define such a pattern, thean all files are passed if this pattern is recognized within the filename. Example: "Terminator - Sample.avi", if the pattern is "SAMPLE" is ignored.

Scan begins (also if it's a „rescan“):

  1. First all pictures within the same directory as the movie-file are assigned.
  2. If there is nothing then the pictures (here cover) are searched within the defined cover-directory and if found they are assigned to the movie..
  3. If there is nothin in the cover-directory then the scanner will lokk into the scan-directory with the scan-type "7" and make assignments.
  4. Also noting => UMC searches within the UMC-application-directory in the subfolder "resources/Cover" if there are possible cover.
  5. At the end, if nothing is found local on the computer, UMC tries to download a cover from the internet to asiign it to the movie.

Filename analysis:

  1. If a filename starts with a year, so this year isn't the production year but the year owned to the movie title.
  2. Otherwise the year is recognized as production year and later will be a decision criterion for the online search to get the correct movie informations.
  3. Blacklist-applying: All items inside the „Blacklist“ are removed from the filename, but only if the blacklist items are not surrounded by letters or numbers.
  4. The online search wil progressed with the words before the year. If no year is found in the filename so the online search will be done with all words leftover.

Online search: In welcher Reihenfolge wird ein Film gesucht:

  1. If a IMDB-Nr. or a OFDB-ID is defined in „Movie.xml“ so the search will use this value, otherwise the movie-title defined in the xml will be used.
