Introduction
DonGyros and Michel are the developers of UMC. Therefore a big thank you to both of them – especially since this project was created voluntarily. Please be considerate and understand that the project may not be bug-free and completely mature.
The purpose of the UMC software is to scan a folder of movies, photos and music and automatically download relevant information, pictures, etc … After scanning your media, UMC will display the information in a comfortable, clear and above all, beautiful design on the NMT!
The idea to develop UMC originated with an attempt by DonGyros to create a plugin/add-on for YAMJ (IMDB2OFDB) which allowed English plots and titles to be replaced with the german OFDB database information.
With each new development version of YAMJ, the plugin/add-on had to be adapted and adjusted. This in turn led to the decision of DonGyros to create his own tool, that would not only translate, but also generate its own HTML-pages.
This is where Michel comes into play who simply wanted to know how the development of the IMDB2OFDB plugin was progressing …
Both got along well instantly and had the same goal in mind. After a long exchange of e-mails it was decided to create the german “competition” for YAMJ, on the basis of a database which led to the UMC-project and its three logical parts:
- UltimateMediaCollector (Scanner/Backend)
- UltimateMediaConstructor (GUI)
- UltimateMediaCenter (Frontend)
It was also decided to create a "dynamic" structured system instead of a static project as found with YAMJ. The new concept of eliminating static HTML-pages and to create everything in PHP dynamically, in turn, created a much bigger coding and programming challenge. To utilize PHP (frontend), it is necessary to use an internal storage medium (hard drive, SSD, CF, etc …) to install the NMT applications and the myiHome service, or an Apache-webserver (such as XAMPP or NAS with Apache) to copy and run the PHP-frontend on.
In this documentation, you will find descriptions, examples and requirements as well as installation procedures to get started with UMC.
The current version of UMC is an early beta-stage. This may cause some items not to fully function or function incorrectly and may contain functions which are not yet fully implemented. The “Movies” part of the project is to be completed first and once it is fully developed, the other parts will be created.
